A Natural Curiosity for Coding
Julian has been a part of the Discover Coding family since he was quite young. When asked how long he’s been learning to code, Julian shared, “About four or five years. I started when I was pretty young.” Over the years, he’s explored various aspects of coding, from scripting to robotics, and has developed a deep understanding of the tech world. His journey shows how programs like coding camps, computer coding classes, and Discover Coding can spark a love for technology and innovation in young learners.
What keeps Julian engaged in coding? For him, it’s the balance of creativity and logic. “I like that it’s pretty easy to learn once you get the hang of it,” he says. “It’s nice that you can make things your own way—you don’t always have to follow exact rules.” Hands-on coding workshops allow students like Julian to explore this balance in fun and educational ways.
Discovering New Tricks
Every coder has moments when they wish they’d known something sooner, and Julian is no exception. “Probably how to use variables,” he says. “When you’re doing script coding, you have to make a lot of them, and I didn’t know how important they were at first. It would’ve been easier if I had understood that earlier.”
Learning how to use variables effectively has helped Julian unlock new possibilities in his coding projects, making his creations more dynamic and functional. It’s a great example of how coding classes for kids can teach essential skills that grow with them.
A Love for Technology
Julian’s fascination with technology extends beyond coding. He’s naturally curious about how things work. “I’ve taken apart a few old electronics just to see what’s inside,” he explains. “It’s kind of cool to figure out what all the little parts do and how they make the whole thing work together.”
This curiosity drives Julian to understand not just how to code, but also the mechanics behind the tech we use every day. His experience highlights the benefits of coding programs for kids, where curiosity and innovation are encouraged.
A Memorable Robotics Camp
One of Julian’s favorite experiences at Discover Coding was a robotics camp he attended before summer. “We used these small robots that could connect with Lego Technics,” he recalls. “We added attachments and had robot battles. That was fun.”
Julian even took his creativity to the next level by figuring out how to “hack” into some of the other controllers. “My robot ended up winning a lot,” he says matter-of-factly. For Julian, this camp wasn’t just about building robots—it was about strategy, innovation, and having fun.
Solving Problems with Technology
When asked what kind of robot he’d create if he could solve any problem, Julian had a practical answer: “I’d probably make one to handle stuff around the house. Folding laundry takes too long, so a robot that could do that would be helpful.”
Julian also envisions a robot that could keep pets entertained, especially his energetic cat. “My cat gets pretty wild if I don’t play with her, so a robot could help with that too.” For Julian, technology is about making life simpler and more efficient.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Coders
Julian’s story is a testament to how coding can ignite a lifelong passion for creativity and problem-solving. Whether he’s experimenting with variables, designing robots, or exploring the inner workings of electronics, Julian is building skills that will serve him well in the future. Programs like Python programming for kids, coding summer camps, and STEM activities for kids are just some of the ways to cultivate this interest.
At Discover Coding, we’re proud to nurture young talents like Julian and provide a space where they can explore, create, and grow. If you’re searching for opportunities like coding classes in Edmonton, robotics and coding for kids, or online coding classes for kids, we’re here to help.
